Oil Majors Reaffirm Commitment to Net-Zero by 2030

The Oil and Gas Climate Initiative, a group that includes 12 of the world’s largest oil companies reiterated their commitment to cut fugitive methane emissions to net-zero by 2030, if possible. Members of the group will now report their annual methane emissions as they work to contribute to climate change mitigation.

Interestingly, a recent report from the International Energy Agency asserted that energy companies were underreporting their methane emissions by up to 70%. This discrepancy highlights an existing challenge in methane reductions, accurate data on which to base reduction goals.

Field Geo Services’ Air Guardian system is a simple and accurate solution for collecting continuous monitoring data on methane and other volatile organic compounds for analysis and interpretation. Designed to be a true “set it and forget it” data collection unit, an array of units positioned on a site can give a historical or real-time view of current emissions levels.
